A seamless flatwoven stair runner for a NW10 home

Project Overview

We recently worked with a client in NW10 to install a traditional flatwoven stair runner. The landings were carefully fitted to carry the pattern through, ensuring a perfect match with the runner. The carpet selected was Off The Loom – Lintzford – Juniper, a timeless design that brought depth and character to the space.

The Installation Process

With a standard width of 65cm, multiple sections were sewn together to carry the design across the landings, ensuring the pattern aligned perfectly and met our client’s vision.

The installation itself required a highly skilled approach and was carried out over four days. We began with an additional planning visit, where the sewing was completed ahead of time. The subfloor was then prepared with plywood, followed by the installation of a microplast gripper and a felt/rubber combination underlay. This step had to be completed to an exceptionally high standard to guarantee a flawless final finish.

On the top landing, a hand-sewn mitre was created to keep the pattern perfectly aligned with the flight of stairs below. It was a detailed touch that ensured the whole staircase flowed beautifully.

Challenges and Solutions

The main challenge was in sewing multiple widths together and creating a hand sewn mitre to ensure the pattern alignment across the three flights of stairs. By planning and preparing the runner in advance we were able to achieve this.

The Outcome

The finished result was a stunning flatwoven runner that flowed beautifully across both stairs and landings. The bold Lintzford – Juniper design has transformed the staircase into a striking feature.
