Faux-Sisal Stair Runner and Study in N2

Project Overview

For this project in N2, our client wanted cohesive flooring that would work across the stairs, landing areas and the study. The two first-floor bedrooms were also fitted with Fairisle in Fleece from Cormar Carpets, creating a soft and understated finish.

For the staircase, landings and study the client chose Ca-rPET faux-sisal in Re-sponse Panama 8301. The runner was fitted with a 10cm margin on either side, creating a defined border for the natural textured look of faux-sisal.

The first flight of stairs was finished with Basketweave binding in Candy from Jaspa, in a slightly narrower width than usual with a quarter of the tape showing (approx 30mm). The second flight was whipped in a coordinating colour to create a consistent finish across the staircase whilst maintaining the budget.

Installation Process

As the property was still undergoing work, the installation needed to be carefully coordinated around the client’s schedule. Rather than completing everything at once, our team returned over multiple phases.

On the staircase, the first flight was cut, measured and installed with Basketweave binding leaving a quarter of the tape showing to create a crisp decorative edge. The second flight was then hand-whipped in a colour chosen to complement the binding.

The surrounding areas were also fitted as part of the wider scheme, with the landings and study fully covered to create a seamless finish between spaces.

Outcome

The finished scheme brings together the staircase and adjoining spaces with a consistent yet understated use of texture and colour. The faux-sisal gives the stairs and surrounding areas a natural feel, while the Candy binding adds a subtle touch of colour and definition.

The combination of covered areas, a bordered stair runner and contrasting finishing details gives the installation a bespoke feel while remaining cohesive throughout. Completing the project in phases also allowed the carpet installation to work alongside the wider works in the home, resulting in a carefully considered finish.
